With eight of the worlds highest peaks, Nepal is loaded with spectacular mountains vistas. The name “Everest” is a magic in itself. EVEREST (8848m.) is called “SAGARMATHA” in Nepali-“Higher than the sky” and “CHHOMOLUNGMA” in Tibetan-“Mother Goddess of the Earth”. The quickest and easiest way to reach this region is by flight to Lukla at 2827m. The Solu-Khumbu region has sweeping glaciers, magnificent mountains, forests, animals, birds, monasteries and is the home of the world famous Sherpa people.
Starting from Lukla, this course goes through Namche Bazar and visits the gompa in Tengboche. Namche Bazar is known for its open-air bazar and as the home town of Sherpas. The gompa in Tengboche is the head monastery of Tibetan Buddhism. You will also see another gompa in Pangboche, which is a town further interior, and will observe the religious life of the mountain people. From Lobuche on, yo will be trekking in the glacier area and, and after visiting the belvedere in Kala Pattar, you will finally reach Mt. Everest Base Camp in the remotest point of the Khumbu Glacier.
Since you will be trekking in places of high altitude, the risk of getting altitude sickness is very high. The elderly and those who have high blood pressure are advised to be especially cautious. Also, since the flights to Lukla may get cancelled when the weather is bad, it is wise to set your schedule with a little leeway both ways.
